Our journey commenced in 1963 with the establishment of our institution, Shyam Shah Medical College, which is situated in the centre of the city of white tigers, Rewa. As one of the biggest medical facilities in the Vindhya region that serves thousands of people, the college is also one of the oldest in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Our college derives its name from the great freedom fighter, Shyam Shah, who played a vital role in mobilising the rebellion of 1857 in the Vindhya region. During its initial years, the college functioned in the building of Model Science College until its current premises were inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Arjun Singh on 3rd October, 1980.
The college is proudly completing 63 years of its glorious journey this year.

The first batch of students passed out in 1968. The following year, postgraduate courses in departments like Anatomy, Surgery, and Medicine were initiated. Presently, there are a total of 132 PG seats in various departments. To strengthen research, a multi-disciplinary research unit has also been established.
The Gandhi Memorial Hospital started with 350 beds. To meet growing demands, the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital was completed in 2002. A modern Super Speciality block came into function in October 2019, providing services in Neurology, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and more. Recently, a separate 30-bedded Burn Unit was established in the year 2021
Established in 1964, our centrally air-conditioned library accommodates 150 students[cite: 9, 10]. It houses 22,819 books (including 800 in Hindi) and 3,229 medical journals[cite: 10, 11]. We are proud to be the first medical library in the state to get a SOUL software update, alongside modern email services for book circulation[cite: 12, 13].
New hostels like 'Shivalika' (250 rooms for UG girls) and 'Samridhee' (150 rooms for Interns/PG girls) were inaugurated in August 2023. For recreation, we have our auditorium 'Shrutilayam' (inaugurated in 1976), a gymnasium, and sports grounds[cite: 17, 18]. The annual college fest, STIMULUS, marks the pinnacle of campus vibrancy.
During this period, Shyam Shah Medical College has produced world-class doctors and wonderful human beings. We are sure, the generations to come will carry forward the rich legacy of this wonderful institution!
